This historic estate is located on the north bank of the Douro River, close to the village of Pinhão. The property takes its name from Vale do Bomfim, meaning “the well-placed valley,” which refers to the region around Pinhão.
In 1912, Andrew James Symington became a partner at Dow’s, and since then, generations of Symington winemakers have cultivated the vineyards to produce exceptional port wine for the brand. Today, the Symington family, consisting of both British and Portuguese members from the fourth and fifth generations, operates four renowned port houses: Graham’s, Dow’s, Warre’s, and Cockburn’s, as well as producing dry wines from the Douro and Alentejo regions.
Quinta do Bomfim is home to two prestigious vintage ports: the Dow’s 2007 Vintage Port, awarded 100 Points by Wine Spectator, and the Dow’s 2011 Vintage Port, recognized as the No. 1 Wine in the World in 2014.
Quinta do Bomfim offers guided tours and tastings of its acclaimed port wines and Douro DOC dry wines, with tours available in English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish.
Visitors can also enjoy a delightful picnic on the terrace with stunning views of the Douro River. Additionally, the estate features the excellent Bomfim 1896 gastronomic restaurant offering breathtaking views of the Douro Valley. The winery and restaurants are easily accessible from the town of Pinhão and the Pinhão train station.
Quinta do Bomfim is the global winner of the Best of Wine Tourism 2024 award.
The estate is also in the 50 World’s Best Vineyards, along with other two other Douro estates Quinta do Crasto and Quinta do Noval.
